Enterprise Architecture, a highly developed line of thought in English-speaking countries, is in the process of expanding in France.
Through its objectives, the nature of its work and the approach followed, Enterprise Architecture involves approaches that are well known in France, such as Information systems planning, Process Management and process optimisation and also covers the Strategic Alignment of Information Systems and processes.
As with IS governance, good corporate governance can be usefully complemented by an arbitration method for business projects.
The strength of EA is that it focuses on the Enterprise: the Enterprise is seen as a complex system in its economic context, in all its external and internal complexity (organisation, processes etc.); from corporate strategy to its varied assets which include processes and the people that implement them using the information systems.
EA is resolutely Top Down in its approach. EA consists in describing the company according to different coherent viewpoints, to be defined on a functioning target of the company, taking into account the existing strengths and weaknesses, basic movements in the Business sector, clients' needs, competition and technological opportunities.
It involves identifying the levels of Added Value, improving the key processes that link the company to business, implementing the information systems that make the general functioning and efficiency of the company more fluid. Although our know-how is systematically based on Information Systems, approaches using Enterprise Architecture can sometimes touch on Information System issues.
The famous Zachmann framework (1987), the Klinger Cohen-act (1996), the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF), the work for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Open Group (TOGAF), etc. - all these methodological corpuses have contributed to the considerable spread of EA concepts in the United States and in major international groups.
Thanks to our monitoring, our exchanges within our international network and with US firms (ZACHMAN, ZIFA, etc.), ORESYS has capitalised on Enterprise Architecture approaches. We are especially familiar with the famous ZACHMAN framework and ZIFA's Enterprise Architecture methodology.
